Setting up for success in 2026

A no-spend 2026 marketing game plan for mechanic workshops

In this practical, no-fluff session, Teddi from Mechanic Marketing walks through what is changing in workshop marketing for 2026: what is still working, the new AI-driven search layer, and a simple action plan you can run without spending a cent. Watch the replay, or read the key takeaways below.

What you'll learn

01

What's still working, and what's changing

Google Ads and SEO are still your bread and butter, the high-intent drivers that put you in front of people searching for a mechanic near them. Your Meta presence and Google Business Profile still matter too, because customers check you out before they book. What is new for 2026 is an extra layer of AI tools that creates a fresh discovery opportunity, not a replacement for what already works.

02

SEO has grown into GEO

Search is no longer just Google. It now includes AI engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, and we are seeing more traffic come from them every month. You might hear it called GEO or AEO, but it is the same idea: be clear about your specialisations, your unique selling points and what makes you different, so the language models recommend you.

03

Win on trust: reviews and consistency

Trust comes down to two things:

  • Reviews tell Google and your customers that you are reliable and do what you say.
  • Reply to every review, good or bad. How you handle them matters more than the odd negative one.
  • Keep your website, social and Google Business Profile presence consistent.

Without reviews and consistency, Google and the language models have little to go on when deciding who to recommend.

04

Win on intent: service pages, FAQs and schema

Cater to what people are actually searching for with strong, specific service pages, FAQs that answer the questions you get every day, and schema markup that hands the search engines the answers on a plate.

05

Schema markup, demystified

Schema is a small piece of code that acts as a cheat sheet for Google and the language models. Instead of making them crawl your whole site, it spells out exactly who you are, what you do, where you are, your opening hours and your star rating. A service page can tell Google this page is about brake repairs in Penrith, so you get surfaced first when someone searches for it, with no extra on-page content and no ad spend. It sounds technical, but it is genuinely simple once it is broken down.

06

FAQs everywhere

People and language models do not want to work hard for an answer. Put FAQs on your service pages, and repeat the basics like opening hours, address and services wherever they help. Easy for your customers, easy for the LLMs, and easier for your business to get surfaced above everyone else.

07

The new SEO is helpful content

The old SEO playbook of keyword stuffing and dodgy backlinks is now being penalised. The pivot is simple: write genuinely helpful content that answers real questions, then back it with strong reviews and trust signals. That is what wins with both Google and the language models, and it is what gets you referenced in Google's AI Overviews, often above the organic results and even the ads.

08

What an AI-ready workshop website looks like

Pull it all together and an AI-ready site has:

  • Schema markup behind the scenes.
  • FAQs on your existing pages and a dedicated page.
  • Google reviews front and centre, linking back to your profile.
  • Fast load times and a mobile-first build.
  • Clear service pages covering everything you offer.
09

Social is the new trust channel

Social media is where trust is built fast. Show up where your customers are, on TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, with short video. It does not have to be polished, lit or heavily edited. The three posts every workshop should be making:

  • Behind the scenes: a cool job, an unusual car, or work that looks impressive to people who know nothing about cars.
  • Meet the team: people want a face behind the business before they walk in.
  • Before and afters: lift kits, wheel changes, anything with an instant visual payoff.
10

TikTok SEO: video is the new search

Video is becoming search. Around 70% of Gen Z are more likely to turn to TikTok before Google, and that habit is spreading to Instagram. Treat TikTok as an extension of Google: weave your keywords into captions, hashtags and voiceovers so the algorithm knows exactly what to surface you for.

11

Bust the social myths

A few things you can stop worrying about:

  • You do not need to post every day. Consistency beats frequency.
  • You do not need fancy editing, lights or gear. A phone is enough.
  • You do not need to chase trends. Helpful content beats trends every time.
  • It is not just young people. Plenty of older customers are on Instagram and TikTok daily.
12

Your no-spend 2026 action plan

A simple checklist to set your workshop up for the year:

  • Update your website for AI readiness.
  • Refresh your service pages for SEO and GEO.
  • Review your Google Ads targeting.
  • Automate at least one email or SMS sequence, such as service reminders.
  • Track everything: calls, forms and emails.
  • Film one short video each month.

Three quick wins to start today: ask three happy customers for a review, refresh your Google Business Profile, create one short video, and add a service-specific page (or add FAQs to the pages you already have).
